Job Summary:
The Live-in caregiver provides personal care and homemaking services that contribute to the client's comfort and safety in the home. Live-in caregiver may work from Monday to Friday each week, providing 24-hour care during this time. The caregiver is given an 8-hour period to sleep at night (with this type of care a bed is provided). Although his / her sleep may be disrupted to provide care throughout the night. In addition, the caregiver is given a 4-hour break during daytime hours.
Essential Functions:
1. Functions within the limitations of the individual assignment.
2. Attends to the client's requests promptly.
3. Provides companionship, socialization, and housekeeping services.
4. Performs personal care activities
5. Assists with meal planning, purchase of food, and food preparation.
6. Assists clients to live in clean, safe environment:
a. Cleans bathrooms and kitchen, including stove and refrigerator.
b. Personal errands, per client and Agency request.
c. Laundry.
d. Vacuuming and dusting.
e. Changing bed linens.
7. Knows and follows infection control policies including proper hand washing techniques.
8. Maintains appropriate communication with the Clinical Supervisor (written and verbal) and with all members of the interdisciplinary team.
9. Documents care given and pertinent observations accurately as directed by the Care Plan/Nursing Supervisor.
10. Treats clients and families with respect. Maintains confidentiality.
11. Accepts and fulfills assignments with the Agency.
Qualifications/Educational Requirements:
- High school graduate or equivalent certificate
- Meets passing criteria on DEARS (Drugs and Ethics) test
- Demonstrate ability to read, write, follow a written Plan of Care and document tasks performed.
- Be self-directed and work with minimal supervision.
- Demonstrate dependability, tact, patience, and the ability to follow instructions.
- Demonstrate good interpersonal communication skills.
