Introduction:

Personal care aides (PCAs) provide essential support and services that enable older adults and
individuals with disabilities to reside safely in their homes and participate in their communities.
They are known by many job titles, including personal assistants, direct support professionals, and
in-home care providers. Unlike other direct-care occupations, particularly certified nursing aides
and home health aides, there are no federal training standards for PCAs. Consequently, training
standards for PCAs, where they exist at all, vary by state and by program, potentially leading to
significant differences in the level of preparedness of these workers across the country.
The Association for Home and Hospice Care received a grant to develop a comprehensive PCA
training program in order to add to the qualified and trained workforce available in North Carolina.
ComForCare Home Care is 1 of 13 home care agencies in North Carolina selected to implement this

PCA pilot training program which offers standardized training and competency certification for in-
home personal care aides. The certificate earned upon successful completion is issued by the

Association for Home and Hospice Care of North Carolina and will be recognized statewide upon
Pilot Project completion in the fall of 2026. This certificate will help participants seek employment
Benefits of this program:

• The primary benefit of this program is the educational credential and training received by
Participant, which Participant may use to seek employment with any home care agency in
North Carolina.

Your safety is our top priority. We provide COVID-19 training and personal protective equipment (PPE) to all employees.
